Love - Love in Action: How We Model Love for Children at Bethany
When children come to school each day, they are constantly learning what love looks like — not just through what they are taught, but through what they observe.
At Bethany, one of the most powerful ways we live our value of Love is through the way adults relate to one another and to students. Children learn about compassion, grace, and respect by seeing these values modelled consistently by the people around them.
This term, we have been very intentional about creating calm, consistent, and relational environments across the school. Clear expectations, predictable routines, and shared language help children feel safe and secure, particularly as the year begins. When children know what to expect and feel supported, they are more able to settle, learn, and build positive relationships.
Love is also evident in how staff work together. We place a strong emphasis on respectful communication, collaboration, and shared responsibility. When children see adults listening to one another, resolving challenges calmly, and supporting each other, they learn that strong communities are built on care and cooperation.
In moments of challenge, our focus remains on responding rather than reacting. Children are supported by adults who remain calm, compassionate, and fair, helping them navigate difficulties with guidance rather than judgement. This teaches children that mistakes are part of learning and that relationships can be repaired.
We also know that love is shown in the small, everyday moments — greeting children by name, noticing effort, offering encouragement, and taking the time to listen. These moments may seem simple, but they are deeply formative. They help children feel known, valued, and confident in who they are.
By intentionally modelling love through our actions, language, and systems, we are helping children learn how to treat others with kindness and respect, and how to carry these values beyond the school gate.
