Personalisation

At Bethany, we believe every child is a unique individual, created by God with their own strengths, challenges, and learning journey. Our commitment to personalised learning means we work intentionally to understand and support each student so they can grow in confidence, reach their potential, and experience success.

Personalised learning at Bethany is not one-size-fits-all—it is carefully planned and thoughtfully implemented with input from teachers, leadership, students, and families. By building strong partnerships and taking the time to truly know each learner, we develop strategies that meet students where they are and help them move forward. This approach is led by our Director of Personalisation, who oversees learning support, intervention, adjustments, and student progress across the school—reflecting how seriously we take our commitment to inclusive, student-centred learning.

We believe every student deserves to be seen, supported, and stretched, and personalised learning is how we live that belief every day—with care, collaboration, and deep respect for each child’s God-given potential.

What Personalisation Looks Like

Our teachers use a variety of practices to support personalised learning in the classroom, including:

  • Small group instruction tailored to students’ needs

  • Hands-on, engaging learning experiences

  • Clear learning goals and success criteria

  • Scaffolded support to build independence and confidence

To support this work, we are proud to have learning assistants in every class from Prep to Year 2, and one learning assistant across each year level from Years 3 to 6. Our learning assistants are trained in intervention delivery and work closely with teachers to provide adjustments, reinforce concepts, and support students who need additional help to stay focused, regulated, and engaged in learning.

We also have a Pastoral Care Facilitator who plays a specialised role in supporting students with transitions, work breaks, and social-emotional needs. This role helps students reset, re-engage, and feel confident returning to the classroom—ensuring that they are emotionally ready to learn.

High Impact Intervention

For students who need more targeted support, we provide:

  • Individual support and curriculum plans

  • Support plans for social-emotional learning, behaviour, or executive functioning

  • Social stories to support understanding and build confidence

  • Supportive play environments that encourage positive relationships

  • Personalised learning pathways for extension, support, or both

Our intervention programs in literacy and numeracy are achieving strong, research-informed results. In 2024, students participating in these programs improved by:

  • 50% in reading achievement

  • 25% in maths achievement

These outcomes reflect the quality of our planning, the expertise of our educators, and the strong monitoring and care behind every child’s progress.

Allied Health Support

We also offer wraparound support through:

  • Access to a psychologist and occupational therapist during parts of the year

  • Collaboration with allied health teams for a multi-disciplinary approach

  • Welcoming Allied Health Professionals onsite to work with young people

  • Complimentary speech and OT screeners in Prep and Year 1 to identify emerging needs early

Personalisation Through Opportunity

Personalised learning is not only about support—it’s also about creating meaningful opportunities. Not every child is academic, and we celebrate the diverse ways our students learn, lead, and shine.

We offer a wide range of pathways for students to explore their passions and gifts, including:

  • Sport and physical development

  • Visual and performing arts

  • Leadership roles

  • Entrepreneurship (through Future Anything and Bethany Market Days)

  • Media and content creation (podcasting, video, digital storytelling)

  • Gardening and sustainability

  • Cooking and food technologies

  • Engineering challenges and robotics

  • Public speaking and presentation skills

By giving students real choice and opportunity, we help them discover their unique strengths and prepare for a future where they can thrive.
