Wellbeing

We believe that student wellbeing is the foundation of all learning. When children feel safe, valued, and supported, they are free to grow in confidence, character, and curiosity.

Our wellbeing approach is proactive, purposeful, and grounded in Christian values. Through our whole-school THRIVE Framework, our explicitly taught Self Sense program, and a clear focus on restorative practices and student safety, we ensure that every child feels a strong sense of belonging and care.

Thrive Wellbeing Framework

Our THRIVE Framework, informed by research from ARACY (Australian Research Alliance for Children and Youth), guides how we care for students, families, and staff. It supports us to foster:

  • A safe and loving environment

  • Physical, emotional, and spiritual wellbeing

  • Opportunities for learning and growth

  • Active participation and student voice

THRIVE gives us the tools to build a community where each child is supported to thrive in all areas of life, not just the classroom.

Self Sense: Proactive Wellbeing Education

Self Sense is our dedicated, weekly wellbeing subject where students learn essential life skills for emotional, social, and relational growth. It is intentionally proactive—helping children build strong personal foundations before challenges arise.

In Self Sense, students explore:

  • Personal values and character strengths

  • Emotional awareness and regulation

  • Friendship skills and conflict resolution

  • Respectful relationships and self-compassion

Using a visual framework, students can track their progress, reflect on their growth, and set goals for the future. Grounded in faith, this program strengthens identity, builds resilience, and fosters respectful, Christ-like relationships.

Restorative Practices and Behaviour Support

We believe that learning from mistakes is essential—but so is accountability. We use restorative practices to support students in understanding the impact of their behaviour, repairing harm, and rebuilding trust.

While we lead with compassion, we are clear in our expectations. Behaviour that puts others at risk is never ignored. Students are held accountable with meaningful consequences and supported to grow through the experience.

We take physical aggression very seriously. It is not tolerated at Bethany, and any incidents are addressed immediately and with clear, consistent responses.

Safe Spaces Anti-Bullying Program

Our Safe Spaces Anti-Bullying Program reinforces the right of every student to feel safe, accepted, and free from harm. We have strong systems in place to:

  • Track behavioural triggers and patterns over time

  • Respond consistently and fairly to incidents of bullying or exclusion

  • Provide safe, confidential ways for students to seek help

  • Partner with families to ensure long-term support and resolution

Our Director of Culture works closely with students and staff to build and maintain a respectful, inclusive school culture. Together, we create spaces where all students can thrive without fear.

Code of Conduct and Information Communication Technology (ICT) Agreement

We are clear about what it means to be a respectful and responsible member of the Bethany community. All students and families are guided by our Student Code of Conduct, which outlines the behaviours and attitudes we expect and model across the school.

Additionally, every student signs an ICT Agreement to ensure technology is used safely, ethically, and with care. Digital wellbeing is an important part of growing up in today’s world, and we are committed to helping students become thoughtful, responsible digital citizens.
