Prep ~ the entry point to the school

Prep at Bethany Lutheran Primary School provides the foundation for a lifelong love of learning. Students develop both a strong grasp of the basics while also learning to free their minds to new possibilities and ideas.

Children who turn 5 in the twelve months after July 1st of a year are eligible for Prep that year. Our experienced Prep team includes full-time teacher aides who work with the teachers to support children on their early learning journey. There is a strong focus on developing social skills, resilience, early literacy and numeracy  concepts, and developing independence and conflict resolution skills.

As children start Prep at Bethany, they will transition to the wider school community in a managed format, enabling them to develop confidence in their new environment. For example, The Prep students play in the Prep playground until midway through the year when they then join the other Junior students in the other play areas. For the first 3 terms of the Prep year, the students eat their morning tea and lunch outside their classrooms in the Prep area, with their teachers supervising. At the commencement of Term 4, the Prep students join with the wider school community for eating breaks in the Undercover Area.

Prep students enjoy a varied curriculum including Christian Studies, along with the Australian Curriculum subjects. Technology also forms a part of their classroom experience as a learning tool. Prep students will also participate in:

·       PE lessons

·       Library lessons

·       Arts lessons- Visual Arts and Performing Arts, and

·       Classroom Music lessons.

Prep at Bethany is full of learning in a variety of ways that engage young children and make them excited about wanting to learn new things.
