Science Festival!

August 05, 2019

This week, students were engaged in our very own Bethany Science Festival! The theme for our Science Festival was ‘I wonder…’ Students in grades Prep to Year 5 participated in experiments led by Year 6 students. Experiments included:

I wonder…

Paper Planes

What plane design flies the furthest?

Shadow Investigation

How shadows change the appearance of an object?

What the correct ratio of cornflour to water makes the best oobleck?

Paper Helicopters

How different items attached to a helicopter can affect the terminal velocity?

Bridge Building

How to make the strongest bridge?

Electric Circuits

How to make a circuit that lights up an LED?

During lunch times throughout this week, Ms Lewis also conducted exciting experiments with students to highlight other scientific concepts.

The purpose of our Bethany Science Festival was to celebrate Australia’s annual National Science Week. The aim of National Science Week is to “encourage younger people to be fascinated by the world we live in”, and we believe that our students’ enthusiasm this week displayed a great sense of wonder, fascination and enjoyment.
